Coordinating Policy Advisor Caribbean Region at the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy

Dimitri Verhoeven was born as the son of entrepreneurs in the northeastern part of the Netherlands and studied law in the city of Groningen. He currently holds the position of Coordinating Policy Advisor Caribbean Region at the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy. His area of focus is the autonomous countries within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

He supports the countries - together with TWO Netherlands - in the implementation of the action plans resulting from the Country Packages Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten, as part E6 economic reforms, namely to stimulate entrepreneurship and the investment climate. He is also coordinating the opening of the EZK-schemes (National Growth Fund, Sustainable Energy Subsidy and Guarantee schemes) for the autonomous countries. 

He has been working at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy since 2011, where he worked on improving regulations, regulatory burden reduction and IT policy. From 2016 to 2021 he was appointed as national expert to the Secretariat-General of the European Commission and worked on the Commission's better regulation policy, first for First Vice President Frans Timmermans and later for Vice President Maroš Šefčovič. In 2021, he returned to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and prepared and guided a Dutch delegation during the G20 innovation league event, with Dutch startups, venture capitalists and corporates in Sorrento, Italy.

Before 2011, he worked at the Dutch Parliament for The People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) and at the Ministries of Finance and General Affairs in various positions, first as Policy Advisor at the Directorate-General of the Budget, Advisor at the Prime Minister's Office, Deputy Project Manager at the World War II Assets Project Group, and at the Office of the Secretary-General as Policy and Political Advisor to the Minister, State Secretary and Secretary-General of the Ministry of Finance.
